1300 366 244Hold onto your hats, folks! The beloved 1915 Melbourne Cup-winning Patrobas monument, a cherished landmark at Rosedale's Prince Street Reserve, is set to embark on a much-needed R&R session.
Like all treasured items, even Patrobas needs a refresh now and then.
On Wednesday 7 August, the historic figure will be carefully transported to a specialist workshop for a thorough restoration. The process will include blasting, metal repairs, applying a protective coating, and re-painting. The original sculptor will be involved to ensure that the monument retains its unique character and durability.
Understanding the community's attachment to Patrobas, Council is committed to having the monument back in place before the 2024 spring racing carnival season kicks off. This timeline ensures that both locals and visitors can enjoy Patrobas in all its restored glory during one of the year's most anticipated sporting events.
The Patrobas statue was erected as a result of the dedication of the Rosedale Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is constructed from plate steel. The statue was unveiled and dedicated by Mr Peter Hall MLC on 4 November 2007. The cup won by Patrobas is on display at the Port of Sale, Wellington Centre in Sale.
