Heritage Victoria makes decisions about the most important historic heritage sites in Victoria.
The Heritage Council of Victoria recognises, protects and celebrates Victoria’s cultural heritage. They advise the government and others on how to conserve and protect historically important objects and places for the enjoyment of current and future generations. They are an independent statutory body and provide legal protection for places and objects that are important to the history and development of Victoria.
The Victorian Heritage Database is home to the Victorian Heritage Register which lists the state's most significant heritage places, objects and historic shipwrecks protected under the Heritage Act 2017. It's also home to the Victorian Heritage Inventory which lists all known historical archaeological sites in Victoria. Additionally, the Database stores the records of some local heritage places.
Planning Practice Notes are prepared and issue by the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP). They assist people using the Planning System on a range of processes and topics.
