Multiple Wellington playgrounds to receive welcome upgrades this October

Wellington Shire Council is undertaking works to upgrade Stratford Memorial Park and Sale Lions Park commencing this October 2024.

Stratford Memorial Park playspace was identified as needing an upgrade as part of Council’s playground renewal program. The upgrade will commence in early October after the school holidays and will include the removal of outdated play equipment to make way for brand new equipment, as well as other improvements. In particular - removal of the timber fort structure and replacing with a new fort design and new single spinner. The rest of the existing components in the Stratford Memorial Park will stay where they are positioned. The timber swing will stay open for use during construction. Residents can use Stratford Apex Park (located at Apex Park Road) as an alternative play area while works are completed.

Sale Lions Park (McLachlan Street) will be fully closed after the September holidays and security fencing will be installed with the site due for a full upgrade. The whole structure will be removed and will be replaced with a brand-new design.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ian Bye said he was thrilled to see these works underway. “We’re excited to bring these much-needed upgrades to Stratford and Sale’s play spaces. These upgrades will create a safer, more engaging environment for children and families”

“Both parks will allow children to learn and become more involved with the natural environment and be physically active. We have also introduced more shaded areas so that children are protected from the harsh Australian elements.”

Residents and visitors to the area are reminded that there will be no access to the Sale Lions Park playspace while the installation of the new equipment and associated construction is underway. Security fencing will be installed around the construction area.

Council is encouraging families to utilise play equipment at nearby Brennan Park in Desailly Street while facilities are closed throughout the construction period.
