Wellington Shire Council is pleased to announce Councillor Scott Rossetti has been elected as Mayor, with Councillor Cindy Madeley stepping up to the role of Deputy Mayor. Both Councillors were elected with support from their fellow Councillors, signalling a strong consensus for their joint vision for Wellington Shire.

Cr Rossetti was challenged for the top spot by returning Cr John Tatterson, but with votes around the chamber favouring his experience and local knowledge, the first term of Wellington Shire’s new Council will be led by Mayor-elect, Scott Rossetti.

Cr Rossetti brings 16 years of local government experience to his role, first elected to Council back in 2008. He has served as Mayor three times and as Deputy Mayor once, showcasing his strong commitment and leadership.

A passionate advocate for the local community and a dedicated leader, Cr Rossetti steps into his role once again, joined by five newly elected Councillors - Cindy Madeley, Catherine Bannerman, Edward Lowe, Liz Foat, and Geoff Wells.

With experience, leadership, compassion, and resilience, Cr Rossetti is well-prepared to lead Council over the coming year – an important time as Council delivers its new Council Plan and Community Vision for the future of Wellington.

“A proactive Council is all about collaboration and teamwork, Cr Rossetti explains – “I am looking forward to continuing the awesome work of the last four years, and together with a new Council I am excited by what we can achieve for our local community.”

Cr Rossetti expressed heartfelt gratitude to outgoing Mayor, Ian Bye for his standout leadership over the last three years.

“The amount of work Ian put into his time as Mayor was extraordinary “he has left a strong legacy, and this next council term will see us deliver on the foundations that have been set so significantly over the last four years.”

New Deputy Mayor, Cr Cindy Madeley is delighted to begin her new role.

”I’m really passionate about my community, and in particular the health and wellbeing of people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Thank you to my fellow Councillors for their vote of confidence as we embark on the year ahead – I sense that it’s going to be a busy 12 months for our community!”.

Further sharing, “I’m so happy to be part of the team leading the decision making that will benefit so many people within our Shire.”

Together, Mayor Rossetti and Deputy Mayor Cindy Madeley are eager to embark on this new journey – with the entire councillor cohort looking forward to working together and with the community over the next year.
