After Hours Emergency
1300 366 244Wellington Shire Council is proud to celebrate this year’s National Volunteer Week with a special event that brings people together and showcases the power of volunteering in connecting communities.
The Wellington Volunteer Expo will be held on Thursday 22 May 2025, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the Port of Sale. Entry is free, and everyone of all ages and backgrounds is welcome to attend.
In line with the 2025 National Volunteer Week theme ‘Connecting Communities’, the Expo aims to highlight how volunteering strengthens local ties, supports important services, and brings people together around shared values.
With dozens of local organisations under one roof, the Expo is a great chance to meet people in the community, hear their stories, and explore how people can get involved. From sport and the arts to health and environmental causes, animal rescue, and emergency services, there will be something for everyone.
Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Cr Scott Rossetti said the event will be a celebration of current volunteers and an invitation to the wider community to see what volunteering is all about.
“Volunteers are at the heart of our communities and this event is a thank you to those already giving their time, and a warm welcome to anyone thinking about getting involved, even in a small way. Every bit counts, just an hour here or there can make a real difference and there are so many ways to help.
“The best thing is, that it doesn’t have to be a big commitment. Whether you're looking for something regular or occasional, you’ll find flexible options to suit your lifestyle and interests”. Cr Rossetti said.
The expo promises to be a family-friendly event, with activities for children, making it ideal for bringing the whole family along for an enjoyable evening. Attendees will be treated to complimentary catering, including savoury bites and sweet treats. Additionally, the first 100 attendees will receive giveaways, with lucky door prizes available throughout the evening.
Guests will hear from local volunteers and community leaders during a short Q&A session, sharing real stories about how volunteering fits into everyday life and why it matters.
“For many people, it begins with a single afternoon, one event, or helping out when time allows. But the impact for both individuals and the wider community can be significant and long-lasting. It also looks great on the resumes of local young people, showing initiative, building skills, and helping to grow confidence and networks, whether you're starting out, returning to work, or looking to make a career change” Cr Rossetti concluded.
