In 2021, the community told us through Wellington 2031 that reducing our environmental impact is important. The survey revealed that our community is passionate about sustainable outcomes for our region and want to see Council lead the way in supporting and promoting change. You also acknowledged that the individual plays a key role in to supporting this change through adoption of better practices.
Over the next few years, we will be making some big changes to the way Wellington manages waste. A new food and garden organics (FOGO) kerbside bin is on the horizon, as is glass recycling. There will also be changes to how the current landfill bin service is delivered.
These changes will help us reduce waste by turning it into a valuable resource and divert from landfill. They will also keep us on track to meet the state government’s targets outlined in its Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Act 2021.
