About hard waste collection

If your property receives the council kerbside bin collection service, you are eligible for hard waste collection.

Hard waste collection dates

Hard waste collection runs over 5 weeks, with each bin collection day assigned a specific week. The 2024 hard waste collection has finished—stay tuned for 2025 dates to be confirmed.

When to put out your hard waste

You can place your hard waste out up to 7 days before your scheduled collection. It must be out by 6am on the Monday of your designated collection week.

Items Acceptable for Hard Waste Collection

The following items will be collected:

  • Baths, Basins and Shower Bases
  • Car Batteries
  • China, Pottery and Ceramics
  • Empty Household Oil Tanks and Drums
  • Floor Coverings (Such as carpets, linoleum and rugs).
  • Hand Tools
  • Household Furniture (Such as chairs, tables and sofas).
  • Refrigerators, Freezers, Stoves, Washing Machines and Dryers (Please ensure door locks are removed).
  • Steel and Scrap Metal (Must be piled separately to all other waste items).
  • Timber - Up to 12 pieces (Must not exceed 1.5 metres (5ft) in length).

Items Unacceptable for Hard Waste Collection

The following items will not be collected:

  • Asbestos
  • Building Materials (Such as concrete, bricks, plaster, windows or demolition waste).
  • Building Waste (Including excavation waste).
  • E-Waste (Items that require a plug or battery to operate. This excludes white goods, which are recycled for their metal components)
  • Engine Blocks
  • Fencing Wire
  • Gas Bottles
  • Green Garden Waste (Such as tree prunings, flower cuttings, rocks, soil or grass clippings).
  • Household Rubbish
  • Industrial Waste
  • Liquid Waste (Including containers filled with liquids).
  • Mattresses and Bases
  • Poisons
  • Recyclable Materials (Such as newspapers, cardboard and plastic containers).
  • Sewage and Sewage Pipes
  • Tins of Paint
  • Trade Waste
  • Tyres
  • Waste (As prescribed under the Environment Protection (Prescribed Waste) Regulations 1998.

Hard Waste Collection Guidelines

When placing your Hard Waste out for collection, please ensure:

  • Hard waste is not placed on nature strips more than 7 days prior to your collection dates
  • Hard waste products are placed on your nature strip only
  • The limit for hard waste materials is 1.5m³ per household
  • No hard waste is placed over a fire plug or water valve or near a power pole
  • Hard waste must be able to be lifted / handled safely by two (2) persons in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety standards
  • Steel and scrap metal are piled separately to all other waste items
  • Unacceptable or rejected items left behind by collectors are removed from your nature strip within 48 hours of notification

Hard Waste Size Limit

The limit for hard waste materials is 1.5m³ per household. As a guide, a standard 6x4 trailer holds approx 1m³.

Our contractors will reject items which exceed the 1.5m³ limit.

Rejected Hard Waste

Unacceptable items will not be collected.

The items will be taped and a notice will be left which explains to the householder or property owner why the items have been rejected.

The notice will request that rejected items are removed from your nature strip within a 48 hour period. Items not removed from nature strips within the designated period may incur penalties.
