Your child’s Early Years journey in Wellington begins when you give birth. In hospital, you and your new baby will be linked in with a Maternal Child Health Nurse. Maternal and Child Health Nurses in Wellington are registered nurses and midwives with additional qualifications in Maternal and Child Health. Your nurse will guide you through the 10 key ages and stages of your child’s development until your child begins school.

Maternal and Child Health support

Maternal and Child Health Nurses offer the following support to Wellington Shire families:

  • Key Ages and Stages visits - arrival, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 4 months, 8 months, 12 months, 18 months, 2 years and 3.5 years of age.
  • Facilitated new parent groups.
  • Links to local community services when extra support is needed.
  • Provide information, support and advice on a variety of topics including parenting, development and learning, child health, family health and wellbeing, safety, immunisation, breastfeeding, nutrition and family planning.
  • Help with sleeping, feeding and behaviour problems.
