The primary role of a Councillor is to provide leadership for the good governance of the Wellington Shire Council in accordance with the Local Government Act 1989 and Local Government Act 2020.
Wellington Shire comprises a three ward structure (Northern, Central and Coastal), which is represented by 9 Councillors (3 representing each ward, a map detailing the ward boundaries is available on the VEC website).
The positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected by the Council at a meeting held after the fourth Saturday in October, but not later than 30 November in each year.
The Mayor is the elected leader and is the key formal representative of Council.
